Progress and Setbacks

The past couple of months have been pretty rough. Circumstances have been less conducive to focusing on health and more conducive to crying on the couch with a bag of Fritos. This has led to backsliding, so I’ve had to stop and think about the things that help keep me going. Some of those things have fallen by the wayside, but now that I realize this, I can add them back into my routine.

Weigh-Ins
I stopped doing the morning weigh-ins when the new job started because slogging to the scale at five in the morning was blargh. However, skipping the scale has led me to be less aware of my weight, which has led to more occurrences of “Hey, donuts!” We’ll return to our regularly scheduled scale visits tomorrow.

Forums and Blogs
I also stopped hitting my usual forums and blogs (I’m looking at you, Crabby) when the new job started, partly because my free time became so limited and partly because I’ll spend way too much time on them if I’m not careful. It turns out I get a big inspiration kick from reading them, though, so cutting them out completely has been detrimental to my progress. I’ll set aside a little time each day to check in and fill my RAWR meter.

Meal Scheduling
Meal scheduling and weekly food preparation are a huge part of staying on track, and I dropped the ball on those when things got crazy. Resisting the urge to go get pizza is a lot easier when you have a dinner schedule for which you’ve already bought the ingredients. I’ve been solid with lunches because Brian makes tasty stuff for me to take for the week (beans and rice, boiled eggs, etc.), so dinner will be the focus for now.

Feeeeet!
It’s not all bad, though. One thing that’s never faltered is Brian’s support. He helps me stick to calorie goals and workout schedules, and he keeps me strong when I want to stick my head in a bucket of candy. Even if he’s not around, I hear his voice whispering in my head when I’m tempted. It reminds me that I need my feet and would like to keep them, so skip the sugary doom-bombs and have some jerky.

  1. Oh shoot, sorry I’ve been offline and missed this! But if it’s any consolation, every person I’ve ever met who has been successful in the healthy-lifestyle journey has at times found themselves wandering in valley of Krispy Kremes and barcoloungers.

I sense a big turnaround is gathering steam, still may be 2 steps forward and 20 steps back at times, but I’ve seen ya’ when all cylinders are firing and I know you’ll be back on track in no time.

    Hang in there!!!!!!!

  2. I really needed to hear (read?) this today, having received proof of said backslide in my checkup yesterday. A huge turnaround is coming, and I will probably post about it. :-P

Thank you so much for popping by and cheering me up!
