We feel happy… we feel HAPPY… Seriously, we aren’t dead. The last two months have been insane. There’s a big post coming, but it’s a happy one with lots of pictures and stuff. Hang tight. –B

Weight Loss: Wuh Wuh!
Failure?
I haven’t written a lot about fitness lately. Actually, I haven’t written much about anything lately. Work’s been insane, but that’s not the real reason I haven’t written.
Duncan Hospitality
I’ve learned a lot about myself on my many cycle rides over the past few years: how far I can push myself before my legs give out, how anger at the wind can drive me to overcome it, how much I value (and need) the serenity of a quiet morning with just the sound of bike tires and birds. I’ve also learned a lot about other people, though the teachings haven’t been nearly as positive (or as much fun for me.) I found that Duncan Hospitality can leave a lot to be desired.
Garden Report #2: It’s Spring!
It’s been six weeks since I went over our garden plans. Now that spring has arrived, it’s time to check in and see how things are progressing!
Brr! It’s Cowd.
[My poor little garlic shoots are snowed under, except for this one hardy fellow.]
Our birds and plants have absolutely no idea what’s going on. In early January, we were bathed in 70 degree temperatures and covered by clear, sunny skies: a warm blanket of Solar Love. Late February has been a whirling dervish of ice, wind, and gray: an iron maiden of Frigid Hate. I’m ready for Spring.
Rest In Peace, Leonard Nimoy (1931-2015)
Leonard Nimoy died today after a long and fruitful life. I didn’t know him. I knew his work and the characters he so richly brought to life.
He helped shaped my world view through his portrayal of Spock, and I’m a better person for it.
“Popularity is the very crumbs of greatness,” he quoted in a commencement address he delivered in 2012. He was a great actor and a fine human being, and I feel small today from the knowledge that he is gone. The world is a bit darker today.
LLAP, Mr. Nimoy. Thank you.

For this edition of Taking Care of Business, we’ll look at another example of a company that went out of its way to show that the customer is valued with pain-free policy and a great support team. Read on to see how SimpliSafe gets it right.
Tech Tuesday #002: Protect Your Work (Word)
Everyone who works in an office where others have access to your files knows the pit in your stomach you feel when you open your prized proposal, presentation, or spreadsheet, only to realize Ted saved his grocery list over it five minutes before the big meeting.
For this installment of Tech Tuesday, we’ll be looking at some simple methods to protect your Microsoft Word files. Many workplaces use Microsoft Office, so that’s what we’ll focus on, but the suggestions still apply to other programs. Only the implementation will be different.
CableOne: (Not) Taking Care of Business
Sometimes a company goes out of their way to make sure you know how little they value your business. My latest dealings with CableOne are a perfect example of how not to do business if you care about your customers.
Tech Tuesday #001: How to Deal With a Tech Scam
The Microsoft Support tech scam isn’t new, but it’s becoming more prevalent in areas where it hasn’t been seen much- in this case, Oklahoma. Here’s what you can do to spot and respond to one of these scam calls.
Welcome to a (hopefully) recurring series of posts on OrksandCats.com. Since I’ve worked in IT throughout my entire adult life, I’ve picked up a few tips and tricks that I wanted to share with you all. I had a few ideas for what I wanted this first post to be, but a coworker’s experience made me change my mind at the last moment.
